Arsenal: Edu must launch fresh Mudryk bid

Arsenal are reported to be tracking Mykhaylo Mudryk ahead of a potential move in the January transfer window.

That’s according to a recent report by The Sun, who claim that Mikel Areta’s side are one of a number of Premier League clubs – including Brentford, Everton and Newcastle United – keeping tabs on the 21-year-old ahead of launching a potential swoop for the winger in the upcoming winter market.

However, the report goes on to state that it is OGC Nice currently leading the race for the Shakhtar Donetsk starlet – with the French side reportedly willing to offer £25m plus add-ons for the attacker – despite the fact that the Gunners had reportedly agreed terms of a £21m move for the Ukraine international towards the end of the summer transfer window.

Following this development, Mudryk made no secret of his desire to secure a switch to north London, with the forward stating back in September (via The Sun): “My dream is to play in the Premier League, of course. Arsenal are a very good team, very good manager – so from my side, I can’t say no to Arsenal!”

And, considering just how impressive the winger has been for Shakhtar so far this season, it would appear extremely advisable for Edu to once again launch a bid for the winger when January rolls around – despite the fact the 21-year-old now boasts a reported asking price of around €50m (£43.5m).

Indeed, after scoring two goals and providing seven assists over just 11 Premier Liga appearances last season – averaging a direct goal involvement every 70 minutes of football played – the £13.5m-rated talent has once again been in exceptional form over his four league outings in the current campaign, having already registered four assists in the Ukrainian top flight.

However, it has undoubtedly been Mudryk’s incredible performances in the Champions League that have caught the eye the most so far in 2022/23, with the 21-year-old having already bagged two goals, provided two assists and created one big chance over his two appearances in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.

The youngster has also taken an average of one shot – boasting a shot-to-goal ratio of 100% – made an average of two key passes and completed an average of two dribbles per game, with these returns seeing the winger average a simply sensational SofaScore match rating of 7.50 – currently ranking him as the joint 43rd-best player in the tournament.

So impressive has Mudryk’s form been this season that the Shakhtar director, Darijo Srna, went as far as to state his belief that the eight-cap international is now the third-best winger in European football.

In an interview with CBS Sports back in September, Srna stated: “Mudryk is a serious talent. After Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, he’s the best player in Europe in his position. If someone wants to buy Mudryk they must spend a lot, a lot, a lot of money and respect our club and our president.”

Indeed, it is clear for all to see just how exciting a prospect Mudryk undoubtedly is, leading us to believe that Edu simply must do everything he can to convince the 21-year-old of a switch to The Emirates this winter – as the Ukrainian sensation very much looks to possess the potential to go on and become a real world-beater under the guidance of Mikel Arteta.

Celtic facing Tierney repeat with O’Riley

Scottish champions Celtic are currently riding high following their brutal 9-0 thrashing of Dundee United away at Tannadice, with the Old Firm outfit continuing their remarkable 37-game unbeaten run in the league which stretches back to September 2021.

With five wins from five in the new season, it all appears to be running smoothly for manager Ange Postecoglou of late, with the Parkhead giants looking well placed to retain their league title.

That jubilant mood could well be somewhat dampened, however, amid reports that promising midfielder Matt O’Riley is attracting interest from clubs across Europe, with ESPN suggesting that Premier League duo Newcastle United and Leicester City are the most likely clubs to make an offer in the coming days.

While the report suggests that the Glasgow side are in no rush to sell the 21-year-old, it is believed that an offer of around £15m-£20m could well sway their thinking, as they face the prospect of losing a player who only joined on a £1.5m deal back in January.

Despite the obvious benefit of a major financial profit on the former MK Dons playmaker, any departure in the coming days could well be a sizeable blow to Postecoglou and co, particularly having already seen fellow midfielder Tom Rogic depart the club at the end of last season.

The Denmark U21 international has been tipped to be the successor to the Australian genius at Celtic Park, although supporters will no doubt be concerned by the player’s recent admission that there is a “lot of interest” in his services.

Having only arrived in Scotland during the winter window, the former Fulham youth product went on to make an instant impression in his new surroundings, scoring four goals and providing three assists in just 16 league games in the second half of last season.

The “intelligent” gem – as lauded by former boss Russell Martin – has carried that rich vein of form into the new season having laid on three assists in the opening five league games, two of which came in that thumping victory over the Tangerines on Sunday.

Not only would it be of huge concern to lose the London-born ace ahead of the start of the club’s Champions League voyage, seeing the midfielder depart so late in the day would also be of huge frustration, as it would leave little time to acquire a replacement.

Celtic have previously felt the consequences of losing a key player towards the latter stages of the window, with academy graduate Kieran Tierney having joined Arsenal back in August 2019.

While the Scottish Premiership side were able to acquire a £25m fee for the marauding left-back, the relatively late nature of the move left then-boss, Neil Lennon, with little time to respond, with the club eventually scrambling to secure the signing of Greg Taylor a few weeks later on deadline day.

Although the addition of the Scotland international has eventually paid off, it was far from ideal having to act in the market so late on, while business completed towards the climax of a window can often lead to inflated prices and wage demands.

Equally, after a rocky first few seasons where he became the target of boo-boys, it is perhaps not until now that Taylor has truly begun to earn to impress following a strong start to the new season – having been praised by teammate Jota – with the Tierney-sized void proving difficult to replace in the seasons following his exit.

That could well be the case with O’Riley, with the Hoops unlikely to have foreseen the £2.07m-rated ace attracting such vast interest so soon into his stint at the club, with that fact potentially ensuring that suitable alternatives or replacements have not yet been lined up.

It would no doubt be a source of frustration if another exciting talent is to be poached from Parkhead by a Premier League club, with Celtic simply needing to hold firm to hold off any interest.

Tottenham: Malinovskyi talks ‘can soon begin’, with one twist

Tottenham Hotspur talks to sign Atalanta star Ruslan Malinovskyi ‘can soon begin’, but reports claim there’s one transfer twist.

The Lowdown: Spurs eye Malinovskyi move…

Spurs head coach Antonio Conte and sporting director Fabio Paratici are allegedly eager to sign the Ukraine international with there being some belief that the player has already green-lit a potential move.

However, while Malinovskyi is apparently open to signing for the club, the Lilywhites face competition from Ligue 1 giants Marseille who are also said to hold a real interest.

September 1 looms, and with just under a fortnight of the window remaining, the north Londoners may have to begin making progress in their attempts to sign the 29-year-old.

The Latest: Tottenham talks ‘can soon begin’…

According to reports out of Italy, there has been an interesting update on the links to Malinovskyi.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-3/” title=”Tottenham latest!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

TUTTOmercatoWEB claim Tottenham talks ‘can soon begin’ to sign the midfielder, but with one twist.

Indeed, it is now believed that out-of-favour Spurs defender Sergio Reguilon could be inserted into the deal with a player-exchange possible.

The Verdict: Get it done?

Reguilon doesn’t have a future at N17 with Conte apparently having no place for the Spaniard.

Taking this into account, a win-win scenario could be allowing the left-back to join Atalanta in a swap deal for Malinovskyi – especially considering the latter man’s quality.

Often a threat in the final third, the forward finished last campaign as one of the Serie A side’s most threatening players – ranking in their top five when it comes to attempts at goal, key passes made and successful dribbles per 90 (WhoScored).

On top of this, he scored six goals and added four assists domestically with reporters highlighting his fantastic technique at times.

Indeed, journalist Josh Bunting of The Islington Gazzette raved over his ‘stunning left-foot’ after he buried a neat finish against Juventus in February.

Clearly a big game player on his day, Malinovskyi could be a real asset in north London.

Leeds: Hay drops Adams update

Phil hay has dropped an update on reported Leeds United transfer target Che Adams.

What’s the talk?

In a recent Q&A for The Athletic, the journalist revealed that, despite reports over the weekend claiming that Victor Orta is set to launch a £10m bid for the Southampton centre-forward in the coming weeks, the 26-year-old is not someone the Spanish director of football is considering a priority target at present.

Regarding the Whites’ links to the Scotland international, Hay said: “You might have seen Che Adams’ name resurfacing [on Saturday], although my understanding is that he’s not someone Leeds are focusing on as a priority at this stage.”

Supporters will love Hay’s update

While it is undeniable that Adams would make a fine addition to Jesse Marsch’s options up top next season, considering the fact that Orta is also reported to be targeting the likes of Paris Saint-Germain forward Arnaud Kalimuendo and Stade Rennais striker Martin Terrier this summer, the argument that either of these two players would be a much better signing for the Spaniard to get over the line ahead of the Whites’ 2022/23 campaign is a relatively easy one to make.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-much-more” title= “Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Indeed, despite Adams impressing over his 30 Premier League appearances for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side last season, scoring seven goals, registering three assists and creating six big chances for his teammates – with these returns seeing him average a SofaScore match rating of 6.85 – both Terrier and Kalimuendo enjoyed much better campaigns in front of goal last time out.

Over Terrier’s 37 Ligue 1 fixtures in 2021/22, the £22.5m-rated hitman scored an extremely impressive 21 goals, provided three assists and created five big chances for his teammates, with these metrics seeing the 25-year-old average a quite remarkable SofaScore match rating of 7.30 for Rennes last term.

Meanwhile, over Kalimuendo’s 34 outings in the French top flight last season, the £16.2m-rated talent scored 12 goals and created three big chances for his teammates, with these returns seeing the 20-year-old PSG starlet average a SofaScore match rating of 6.82 while on loan with RC Lens.

As such, while there is an argument to be made that Adams is the only one of Orta’s reported attacking targets to boast experience of the Premier League, with Terrier quite clearly being a deadly marksman and Kalimuendo evidently being an incredibly exciting prospect, Hay’s update revealing that both Frenchmen are ahead of the Scot on Leeds’ shortlist is sure to be news the Elland Road faithful will love.

Everton offered Ross Barkley

Everton have been offered the chance to re-sign Ross Barkley from Chelsea.

What’s the word?

That’s according to The Mirror, who claim that Chelsea are looking to offload Barkley after what has been a disappointing stint in London.

Thomas Tuchel has reportedly lost faith in the midfielder and sees his future elsewhere with the player also offered to Aston Villa.

Despite leaving the Toffees in frustrating fashion back in 2018, he could be ready to return and provide the creative spark they have been lacking.

Lampard would love him

Back when he used to play at Goodison Park, Barkley would have been the perfect attacking midfielder for Frank Lampard to mould in his image.

However, it just so happens that at that time, Lampard was still playing professional football rather than managing.

It has been five years since he made the ill-advised switch to Chelsea that has seen a career destined for the stars dashed in the English capital, however, a return could be exactly what both club and player need.

Everton are crying out for a creative spark in their midfield, whereas Barkley is crying out for some faith and a run in a team. Perhaps now is the perfect time for Lampard to take him under his wing and squeeze out whatever talents have survived his Chelsea excursion.

Having only featured six times last season, the 28-year-old marked what could be his last appearance for the club with a goal on the final day of the season. This came after a 20-match run without an appearance, despite being on the bench for most of those games.

The season prior he did get a stint at Aston Villa where he managed to recover some of his old form, as he scored two in his first four before suffering a hamstring injury and never truly recovering.

Luck has not been on his side, but perhaps if Everton are to take a chance on this £100k-per-week pariah, his luck might just start to change.

Back when he used to manage both the club and the player, Roberto Martinez hailed Barkley as “an example to the new generation of English football.”

He continued to claim that “we all saw that he had the potential to be world-class” and that he was a “special talent”

Although it appears that he never truly fulfilled this potential, there was clearly enough there to demand such praise.

Hopefully, if he is to return to the Toffees he would be welcomed back, and it would provide the perfect fairy-tale story that would delight Lampard and supporters alike. Whether he would be welcomed back by Goodison Park is a completely different thing, however.

Newcastle plotting Callum Wilson talks

A big update has emerged on Newcastle United and their plans for Callum Wilson as the summer transfer window heats up.

What’s the talk?

According to The Mirror, PIF are plotting a new deal for the centre-forward and are set to hold behind-the-scene talks with him in the coming weeks.

He currently has two years left to run on his contract and the report claims that the club want to secure his long-term future by pinning him down to an extension.

It is stated that the Magpies’ head coach is a big fan of the number nine and believes that he will be an important member of the group moving forward.

Newcastle do, however, want to add another striker before the end of the window and have had their eye on Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who they have been quoted a fee of £60m for.

Supporters will love it

The Toon boss and supporters alike will love this news because it suggests that Wilson will be staying and that another player will be coming in to challenge him for a starting spot.

Whilst the England international is an impressive goalscorer, the ex-Bournemouth man has struggled to stay fit since arriving at St. James’ Park. He joined the club in the summer of 2020 and has missed 35 competitive matches through injury in the subsequent two years.

This is a cause for concern and is why Howe will appreciate the club’s desire to add another option at the top end of the pitch. Chris Wood came in during the January window but was unable to prove himself to be an adequate replacement as he scored two goals – one from open play – in 17 Premier League matches for Newcastle.

Supporters will also be buzzing because keeping Wilson will be a big boost to the team when he is fit and available to play.

In the 2021/22 campaign, he found the back of the net eight times in 16 starts. This came after he plundered 12 goals and five assists in 23 starts in his debut season in black and white – meaning that he has averaged a direct goal contribution more than once every two starts in the Premier League for the club.

This shows that he has the quality to make a huge impact in the final third and that is why everyone associated with the club will be elated to keep him in the squad for many more years to come.

Man City: The Telegraph share big Phillips update

Reliable journalist James Ducker of The Telegraph has now shared a big Manchester City transfer update involving Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips.

The Lowdown: City eye move…

The Premier League champions could be set for a major summer rebuild after retaining their domestic crown in the most dramatic fashion.

Three goals in five minutes against Aston Villa on the 2021/2022 final day sealed one of the most dramatic title-winning comebacks in English football history, fittingly 10 years after Sergio Aguero’s 93:20 heroics.

However, big changes could be on the horizon at Eastlands as club legend Fernandinho now ends a memorable nine-year stay with many others players tipped to leave.

Pep Guardiola could lose Raheem Sterling, Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus, Nathan Ake and Oleksandr Zinchenko (The Times) with Barcelona also eyeing a move for superstar midfielder Bernardo Silva.

As such, new additions may be needed after Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, with Leeds favourite Phillips among the targets eyed to replace Fernandinho in midfield.

The Latest: Man City to make imminent ‘approach’…

According to The Telegraph, City ‘do not intend to hang around’ and are expected to make an ‘official approach’ to Leeds ‘later this month’.

The Sky Blues plan to make imminent contact, specifically once ‘England internationals are out the way’, but the Whites apparently haven’t given up all hope of tying their big name down to fresh terms.

The Verdict: Promising update…

Phillips would come as both a quality and reasonably priced addition to rotate with Rodri in front of Guardiola’s back four.

As the Spaniard chases a ‘top, top’ player, as he was called by pundit Kevin Phillips, we believe the 26-year-old would be an astute signing for just £60 million, with his age and status as an England regular preserving that value for years to come.

According to WhoScored, Phillips averaged more tackles per 90 in the top flight than any City star over 21/22, seemingly backing why City believe he would be a robust option and are set to push forward.

Rangers: Jordan Campbell shares big news on Aribo

Rangers may receive an offer from Crystal Palace for midfielder Joe Aribo this summer, The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell writes.

The lowdown

Aribo played 57 matches for Rangers over the course of the 2021/22 season, a tally bettered only by Connor Goldson (61) and James Tavernier (58).

Valued at £9million by Transfermarkt, the Nigerian midfielder crucially has just one year remaining on his contract.

And if Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants to sign more than one first-XI player this summer, he may have to sanction the sale of a prize asset.

The latest

Campbell tweeted on Friday morning that Palace are ‘seriously interested’ in signing Aribo during the transfer window.

In the attached article, he explains that the midfielder’s future is ‘especially delicate’ because this summer represents Rangers’ last chance to cash in ahead of the expiry of his contract in June 2023.

Palace believe that Aribo suits ‘what they are building’ at Selhurst Park, and so Rangers may be bracing themselves for a formal approach.

The verdict

Losing Aribo would surely hurt.

He bagged nine goals and provided ten assists last season, including a ‘mighty’ opener (to quote journalist Rahman Osman) in the Europa League final defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 25-year-old is an especially important asset for Van Bronckhorst because of his capacity to play in multiple positions, featuring as a right winger and a makeshift striker last season, as well as a conventional midfielder.

Rangers refused to sell Connor Goldson in the final year of his deal because they believed his contributions were so valuable. Will they look at Aribo’s situation the same way, or can they not afford to keep passing up good selling opportunities?

In other news, this man apparently wants to join Rangers.

Tottenham: Report makes big Barak transfer claim involving Conte

A report out of Italy has now shared some big transfer news involving Hellas Verona star Antonin Barak and Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte.

The Lowdown: Spurs enter mix…

The in-form Serie A playmaker has exploded for Hellas over 2021/2022, attracting interest from Premier League sides, including Spurs.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Fabio Paratici reportedly has his eye on Barak with reports suggesting a summer swoop could be on the cards.

The Czech Republic international is now attracting Conte’s personal interest as Italian Italian source Mondo Udinese.it make a major claim.

The Latest: Conte could convince…

According to their information, Tottenham’s manager could now ‘make an attempt’ to ‘convince’ Barak to join the Lilywhites.

This comes as he prepares for his first full campaign in charge over 2022/2023 and interest in the 6 foot 3 powerhouse from Conte is seen as an ‘excellent opportunity’ for Hellas to make a profit off his sale.

The Verdict: Underrated target…

Barak stands out as seriously key player for the Italian side, racking up 11 goals and four assists in the top flight alone.

He’s also their third best player going by average match rating over 2021/2022 and it’s clear to see why Conte is attracted by the possibility of signing him for Spurs.

Reports suggest Barak could leave his club for as little as €20 million (£17m), an arguable bargain fee given he is still in his prime and has struck double figures in his league.

For a price in and around that, Conte shouldn’t hesitate in trying to sway the player into a Spurs move, with reporters even branding Barak ‘phenomenal’ at international level (Sacha Nabet).

Tottenham: Wenham blown away by Scarlett

Tottenham Hotspur ‘insider’ John Wenham has been left blown away by rarely-seen youngster Dane Scarlett amid his temporary spell at Portsmouth.

The Lowdown: Massive potential…

Bursting on to the scene under former boss Jose Mourinho, with the ex-Premier League title-winning boss having called him a ‘diamond’, Scarlett found game time slightly harder to come by under Antonio Conte.

The England Under-19 international was rarely used or even seen in the squad last season at Spurs, playing just three top flight minutes over the entirety of the last campaign.

As a result, Spurs saw fit to green-light a loan move to Portsmouth so Scarlett can gain some much-needed senior experience in the lower leagues.

The Latest: Scarlett praised…

Speaking to Football Insider, club ‘insider’ Wenham, who regularly breaks news on his Lilywhite Rose social media accounts, has singled out the teenager for praise.

“I’m really pleased for Dane. I have seen videos, the Portsmouth matchday-going support love him, they have loved him from day one.

“That will be because he doesn’t stop running, he presses high, he has pace, commitment.

“I can now see him starting plenty of games for Portsmouth and this is a club at the top end of League One.

“It has been really, really impressive from a lad who has just turned 18. I’m really pleased.”

The Verdict: Great news…

News of Scarlett thriving so far at Fratton Park will be music to the ears of both Spurs supporters and club hierarchy – he has two direct goal involvements in his first six League One matches, a goal and assist apiece.

The winger has been tipped for real stardom at N17 in future seasons, but first he must gain valuable know-how by plying his trade in a very competitive and physical division in League One, and it will be interesting to see how his end product develops in the next 10-12 months.
