Saved by James: 4/10 Chelsea star had his worst game of the whole season

Chelsea salvaged a last-gasp draw against Bournemouth but will be disappointed to have ceded more territory as Enzo Maresca’s winless run in the Premier League stretches to five fixtures.

There’s no question that the Italian tactician has surpassed expectations with his start to life in west London, but Chelsea need to rally after another setback.

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill

The Cherries showed great fight, but dominant Chelsea should have put the game to bed. While it’s disappointing, Reece James proved to be a bright shining light as he restored parity in the dying embers.

Reece James is back

James fired true as he breached Mark Travers’s line, roaring to the Stamford Bridge crowd as he reminds English football of his elite quality after injury plight.

Replacing Romeo Lavia before the hour mark, showed flashes of quality with some slick passing and energy but he looked rusty defensively as he continues to build his fitness levels.

But make no mistake, James is one of the best players in the Premier League when at the top of his game and if he can stay match-ready, the Blues will be back to winning ways in no time.

However, not everyone caught the eye – not for the right reasons, anyway.

Moises Caicedo played his worst game of 24/25

Moises Caicedo has been brilliant this season, a pillar of strength in central midfield. However, he’s played in an inverted right-back role to accommodate Lavia and he struggled with the pace of trickery of Antoine Semenyo, foiled by a winger once again.

Chelsea's Moises Caicedo

He was hastily shuffled back into the centre as James entered the pitch, and started to look like his normal self but this serves as another reminder to Maresca that the Ecuadorian is not the solution in the makeshift role, something that James’ return will hopefully put right.

But he will be frustrated all the same, with the Daily Express branding the 23-year-old with a 4/10 match rating after he clumsily gave away the penalty that Justin Kluivert dispatched shortly after the interval.

Maresca will think twice about reprising Caicedo’s place on the teamsheet. It’s clear that opponents will seek to capitalise on his inexperience in the role.

And anyway, when he plays so well as the all-influencing midfield engine, his coach will surely recognise that this isn’t the solution. Unfortunately, Caicedo might have suffered his worst display of the campaign, but that’s really a marker of his immense efforts.

Correspondent Felix Johnston called Caicedo out for his “reckless” challenge on Semenyo, bundling him to the ground. It’s clear that James’ fitness is imperative to the lasting success of the west London outfit, creating the balance and fluency to keep an outside chance of closing down first-placed Liverpool.

Rashford is shining under EmeryHas three goals and four assists since joining VillaEmery eager to deploy him in a new roleFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

The England international netted twice in Villa’s FA Cup victory over Preston North End, and he carried that momentum into the Premier League with a goal in Wednesday’s dominant 3-0 win against Brighton. Rashford’s contributions since joining Villa stand at three goals and four assists, a clear indication of his upturn in form.

Against Brighton, Ollie Watkins was left on the bench, allowing Rashford to lead the line as Villa’s central striker. However, Emery is now contemplating a tactical setup that allows both Rashford and Watkins to play together in the attack.

WHAT EMERY SAID

Speaking to Emery said: "Keep going is the message for him. Playing more minutes means he’s getting physically better, he’s scoring more goals. We’re playing him as a striker and trying to compete with Watkins. Maybe going forward we can play them together. Try to exploit his [Rashford’s] qualities. He’s in the best confidence moment. On Sunday, we planned to play him as a striker, and he scored two goals, so I decided to go again and he scored."

Emery was then asked if Rashford can regain top form at Villa and told BBC Sport: "This is the challenge he has. And the challenge we have in our squad, signing him for those months, of course, he’s getting better, feeling confident, as well getting the understanding of our style, our demands, how difficult it is to face each team in each competition. Of course, his qualities, his skills are very important in the squad. Scoring goals, assists, we have the combination with the players, they are understanding better, each match we are playing for him is very important."

The Birmingham-based club will be looking to maintain momentum when they host Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Following that, they travel to France to take on Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie, a game where Rashford’s experience on the European stage could prove invaluable.

Blackburn now offer £1.75m to sign new forward instead of Brereton Diaz

Blackburn have now tabled a £1.75m offer to sign a new face for John Eustace this month, who has already shown he knows where the back of the net is when he has faced Rovers previously.

Blackburn stumbling in the Championship

Progression into the FA Cup fourth round at the expense of fellow Championship play-off hopefuls Middlesbrough ended a wretched run of form for Blackburn that had seen them fail to win in almost a month, taking just two points from their last five games in England’s second tier.

It has left their early hopes of securing a place in the play-offs dented, with Rovers now a point behind sixth placed West Brom and a further point behind Boro, though they have a game in hand on both sides as the trio look to make up ground on the four runaway leaders atop the Championship.

Speaking earlier in the month, Eustace admitted that his side need “help” to sustain their play-off hopes: “We are doing the right things but we have to keep positive and we think we can be a top side in this league. But we need help. Hopefully, we can get that to stay in the push of where we want to be.”

To that end, the club were in talks to sign Liam Kitching from Coventry, but that deal appears to have fizzled out with the defender scoring to help Coventry into the fourth round of the FA Cup over the weekend.

Rovers also wanted to sign Ben Brereton Diaz, but any potential move faces a major stumbling block with the Chile international wanting to join Sheffield United over any other side. As a result, the Lancashire outfit have been forced to look elsewhere for reinforcements, and have now identified an alternative.

Blackburn make offer for another Coventry ace

According to Sky Sports, Blackburn have now tabled a £1.75m offer to sign Coventry City forward Brandon Thomas-Asante.

The forward, who can play across the frontline, only joined Coventry in the summer transfer window from West Brom but has struggled for game time at the CBS Arena. He has started just eight times in the Championship, and just once since the arrival of Frank Lampard.

Though he has only found the net once this season, Rovers fans are well aware of his goalscoring prowess, with Thomas-Asante having scored three times against them in his last two appearances, including his sole goal this campaign in the 3-0 win over the Lancashire side in October.

With attacking trio Andreas Weimann, Yuki Ohashi and Makhtar Gueye having combined for just 15 goals between them this season, there is certainly scope to add more goals to Eustace’s side, with their 28 goals scored the lowest of any side in the top half of the Championship and fewer than several sides in the bottom half too.

Could Thomas-Asante be the man to fire them into the play offs as they look to return to the top flight?

Boult, Shadab and Russell among BBL draft platinum players

Faf du Plessis, Chris Jordan, Rashid Khan and Liam Livingstone also included in the first round

Andrew McGlashan22-Aug-2022Trent Boult, Shadab Khan, Andre Russell and Jason Roy are among the headline names confirmed as platinum players for the BBL overseas draft. There are 12 platinum players overall, featuring a mixture of names who had already been announced and a significant group confirmed on Monday after the registration process closed the previous evening. The full list of platinum players, who will be paid AU$340,000 (US $233,853 approx.) regardless of how many games they are available for, reads: Faf du Plessis, Roy, Liam Livingstone, Sam Billings, Kieron Pollard, Russell, David Willey, Shadab, Dwayne Bravo, Rashid Khan, Chris Jordan, and Boult.Related

Of the above list, Billings (Sydney Thunder), Russell (Melbourne Stars), Shadab (Sydney Sixers), Jordan (Sydney Sixers) and Rashid (Adelaide Strikers) are available for retention by the clubs they played for last season.Of the platinum names, only Willey and Shadab are not, as yet, involved in either the South Africa league or ILT20 of the UAE. Those heading to the new tournaments will likely be available for the BBL until late December, but exact details are still being confirmed.Shadab is part of a large group of Pakistani players to be included in the final draft list, which has 279 names overall. There had been doubts as to whether the PCB would issue NOCs to any of their players for the BBL or other domestic T20 leagues in the early-2023 window because of a host of domestic and international fixtures – England and New Zealand are visiting between December and February, and the PSL starts in mid-February – but more than 40 players are involved. That includes Mohammad Amir, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Wahab Riaz, but none of the multi-format stars such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi.ESPNcricinfo LtdFrom the last group of names confirmed, Boult is among the most significant, having recently stepped away from his New Zealand central contract. Even though his availability will be limited, his wicket-taking skill with the new ball and at the death, along with his left-arm angle, will likely make him sought after in the first round of the draft where only platinum players are available, although a club does not have to select one.Rashid is one player almost certain to be retained, with Strikers expected to utilise their option should another club try to grab him. Given his recent form, Stars could well look at keeping hold of Russell.Overall, there are 26 players eligible for retention, which also includes James Vince (Sixers), Alex Hales (Thunder) and Mujeeb ur Rahman (Brisbane Heat), who are likely to be in the gold category. Suarez was speaking exclusively to earlier this week. The Uruguayan was asked if he and Messi talk openly about retirement. The long-time teammates talk about the subject "jokingly", replied Suarez. The 38-year-old then revealed that Messi still has the drive to represent Argentina on the biggest stage, perhaps even through to the 2026 World Cup in North America.

Messi was absent from Argentina's recent World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Uruguay, as he was nursing an abdominal injury. Persistent fitness issues have led to speculation over the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner's international future, but Suarez feels his Miami colleague still wants to be part of La Albiceleste's global title defence next year.

WHAT LUIS SUAREZ SAID

When asked if he and Messi talk about when they will both retire from football, Suarez, who stepped down from Uruguay duty last year, said: "No, yes, we often talk jokingly, but he also has that desire to play in next year's World Cup.

"Obviously, after being away from the national team for a bit, that's becoming less of a problem for me than for him, but we haven't talked about it yet. Yes, we can talk about it here, when we're older, we can make the decision, but we haven't really talked about it in detail."

Tom Alsop century guards against drama as Sussex close out the draw

ECB Reporters Network15-Sep-2022Sussex 220 and 312 for 6 (Alsop 137*, Carter 55) drew with Worcestershire 438 for 5 (Libby 215) Sussex’s Tom Alsop led the resistance with an unbeaten century as Worcestershire’s promotion hopes in the LV= Insurance County Championship suffered a potentially fatal setback.Alsop’s 137 not out – his fourth Championship hundred of the season – and valuable contributions from Oli Carter (55), Ali Orr (48) and Tom Clark (36) took Sussex to 312 for six, a lead of 92, when the players shook hands with 13 overs remaining at the 1st Central County Ground.Worcestershire picked up 14 points but they are 28 points behind second-placed Middlesex with two games to play and will almost certainly be in the second division again next season. Sussex remain seventh and have little prospect of improving on that position with two matches to go.The visitors were ultimately left to rue the loss of 84 overs to the weather. There were a couple of moments on the final day when they sensed an opportunity but Alsop held things together impressively for the hosts. The wicket at Hove didn’t really deteriorate but Sussex were still 130 runs in arrears when they lost opener Orr, leg before when Ben Gibbon found some late inswing.Alsop had come to the crease in the sixth over of the day after nightwatchman Brad Currie had two stumps knocked over by Josh Tongue’s inswinger. It was hard work at first but gradually Alsop, fluent as always on the leg side, and Clark began to find some rhythm as the ball softened.Clark went down the wicket to hoist Brett D’Oliveira for a straight six but in the next over he was brilliantly caught down the leg side by the diving Gareth Roderick off the persevering Dillon Pennington after adding 83 in 27 overs with Alsop.Worcestershire sensed their chance but Carter proved an excellent foil for Alsop in a fifth wicket stand of 110 in 30 overs.Alsop went to his century with a clip to the mid-wicket boundary off Tongue but two wickets in five balls after tea, when they took the new ball, gave Worcestershire renewed hope.Carter, who hit nine fours as he passed fifty for the sixth time this season, was beaten by a fine delivery from Pennington which trimmed the bails. Then in the next over Joe Leach bowled Fynn Hudson-Prentice with one which kept low. Sussex’s lead was just 64 at that stage and their lengthy tail was exposed. But Alsop stood firm and James Coles belied his inexperience to offer solid support at the other end as they put on 30 runs before the players shook hands. Alsop’s innings spanned 228 balls and contained 18 fours and he departed to a standing ovation.

Their own Rodri: Liverpool make move to sign "phenomenal" UCL star for Slot

Liverpool continued their strive for Premier League success in Arne Slot’s first season, with their 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town at Anfield over the weekend.

Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah made it 4-0 for Liverpool after 65 minutes, before Ipswich defender, Jacob Greaves, netted a consolation goal in the 90th minute to make it 4-1.

Currently sitting six points clear at the top of the table with one game in hand, Liverpool are firmly in the driving seat heading into the second half of the season.

However, a top-class January addition could further solidify their title hopes, and FSG (Fenway Sports Group) could look to provide Slot with that in the final week of the window.

Liverpool looking at midfield signing

According to reports from CaughtOffside, Liverpool are one of the clubs to have ‘made a move’ for Bayern Munich midfielder, Joshua Kimmich. The German is yet to agree a new deal with Bayern, opening the door to other clubs who are registering interest in him.

The reports state that Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are all keen on the 29-year-old. If he does not agree a new deal, teams could make a move on a potential free transfer or even look to pay a smaller fee for him to arrive this month.

Kimmich has made 29 appearances for the German giants so far this season, scoring one goal and providing eight assists.

How Kimmich could become Liverpool's answer to Rodri

For the past few seasons, Liverpool have been looking to make changes to their midfield department, with the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum all leaving the club.

bobby-clark-georginio-wijnaldum-liverpool-premier-league

In order to combat that, they have made signings such as Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Szoboszlai, as well as Curtis Jones coming through the academy ranks.

However, whilst this midfield group has a variety of skills, their defensive acumen, experience at the highest level and ability to dictate the tempo of the game from deeper zones can be lacking at times. This has often been a key difference in recent years, as Manchester City have Rodri, who does all of these things at an exceptional level.

So, could Kimmich be the Anfield outfit’s answer to the great Spaniard? Let’s take a look.

When comparing Kimmich to Rodri in 2023/24 when he was not injured, you can see how closely the German ranks in many metrics, which is no easy feat considering this was much of the campaign that won Rodri his Ballon d’Or award.

Rodri celebrates scoring for Manchester City.

The ability to have a high volume of passes in a game, complete them with efficiency, progress play and even add some threat with key passes too, all whilst protecting the defence and leading in a central area of the pitch, makes them invaluable to their side.

José Mourinho has even praised Kimmich in the past as an “absolutely phenomenal” player, labelling the German as “intelligent” showing his ability to play both as a right-back and a defensive midfielder. This versatility could also come in useful, depending on the Trent Alexander-Arnold situation come the end of the season.

Kimmich would clearly bring that extra experience in the midfield, helping the likes of Gravenberch and Jones especially, who can provide the box-to-box legs in the middle, but could also use the hand on their shoulder, leading that midfield unit.

Steve Cherundolo will step down as LAFC coach at the end of the 2025 campaign, the club announced on Friday. The manager, who has been in charge since 2022, enjoyed a strong start to his tenure, but has come under pressure in recent months for failing to build on that success.

Cherundolo said the move "is in the best interest of my family."

AdvertisementTHE BIGGER PICTURE

Cherundolo's debut season in Los Angeles was a record-breaking one, as he became the first manager to win both MLS Cup and the Supporters' Shield in his initial campaign. Since then, LAFC have struggled at times.

LAFC lost in the 2023 MLS Cup Final, and were eliminated in the 2024 Western Conference semifinals – despite having one of the highest payrolls in the league. The opening to this season has been underwhelming, with LAFC seventh in the West and bounced from the CONCACAF Champions League by Inter Miami in the quarterfinal stage.

WHAT CHERUNDOLO SAID

Cherundolo outlined the decision in a statement: "It is an honor to be the head coach of LAFC. After much reflection and discussion with my family, we made the decision that at the end of this year we will return to Germany. I love Los Angeles and LAFC, but this move is in the best interest of my family, even as it will ultimately take us away from a team, city, organization and fan base that I am proud to represent. I am looking forward to continuing our work with the players, coaches and staff to make the 2025 season a success as we keep fighting to win trophies."

Silence not so golden as Glamorgan reflect on collapse at Lord's

After conceding 176-run first-innings lead to Middlesex, visitors go from 123 for 0 to 144 for 6

Paul Edwards14-Sep-2022
To understand the full import of the drama we saw at Lord’s in the second half of this day, one needs to remember that these are the weeks when the consequences of failure are plain. In the careless midsummer months a team can lose a match and care deeply about the loss, but the results of their defeat will not be clear until deep in September. But now we are deep in September, the month when the poetry of a season’s end jostles with the prose of its league tables.Yet the language spoken in the Glamorgan dressing-room this evening will have lacked polish of any sort. Indeed, there may have been long periods after tea when the place was filled with long silences and foul oaths. For having conceded a 176-run first-innings lead to Middlesex, David Lloyd’s team had collapsed from 123 without loss to 144 for 6 and there is a powerful argument that each of the visiting batsmen had played a pretty atrocious shot, this on the afternoon when they had needed at least a few of them to be at something near their best.Middlesex’s three main seamers, Toby Roland-Jones, Tim Murtagh and Ethan Bamber had taken two wickets apiece but they will bowl far better for a tight-fisted reward. The catching had been competent, with Bamber’s diving effort at square leg to get rid of Eddie Byrom three balls after tea a particular highlight. But this was a late afternoon when Glamorgan’s collapse was a do-it-yourself job. And a silent dressing-room possesses its own eloquence. The visitors had begun their second innings on an unexpectedly glorious afternoon of haze and sharp-shadowed splendour. They knew they needed to bat for perhaps most of four sessions to avoid losing this match, and with it vital ground, to one of their promotion rivals. Lloyd’s team have played some fine cricket this summer, winning five of their 11 games. But their hopes of promotion rested, to some degree, on two days’ batting in St John’s Wood. The stakes were similar for Middlesex. Tim Murtagh’s team had controlled this game and the 104 runs their last five wickets had added this morning had given them an imposing lead. All they needed to do now was complete the job and thereby move 13 points clear of Glamorgan and 20 ahead of Derbyshire. It would be a useful advantage with just two games left in the season but there was a snag of sorts: Middlesex have won four Championship games in 2022 but none since May 22. The ECB have also played a part: Middlesex have played 11 first-class matches this season but none since July 28th, when they drew with Durham; and the home county last played at Lord’s on July 22nd.And so for at least an hour Middlesex bowled as though this was an unfamiliar field. Byrom was dropped in the slips off the first ball of the innings but virtually the rest of the session was dominated by Glamorgan’s openers, with Lloyd feeding happily on some short, wide stuff to hit nine fours in his 63-ball fifty. Nine deliveries before tea, though, the Glamorgan skipper tried to guide Bamber between first and fourth slip but only steered him straight to Sam Robson in the latter position. It was a one-day jeu d’esprit and it fell flat.As though unsettled by the loss of their skipper for 70, the rest of Glamorgan’s top-order disintegrated in a riot of incompetence. Three balls after Byrom’s dismissal, Sam Northeast played a horrendous flat-footed cut and the thin edge was taken by Simpson. Kiran Carlson dug in for fifty minutes with Shubman Gill before losing patience and edging an outlandish swish more suited to a battle in to Stevie Eskinazi at first slip. Billy Root’s sixth ball was on an eighth-stump line but he still tried to drive it and was caught at slip by Robson off Bamber.Glamorgan’s hour of batting from the Black Museum was completed when Gill thick-edged an on-drive to Luke Hollman at point. James Harris and Chris Cooke then took their side to within a run of parity and but both fell just before the light closed in. Their only consolation was that Harris’s bat was vertical when he edged Roland-Jones to Simpson and Cooke had at least toughed it out for the second time in the match when he was leg before to Higgins. With five overs left in the day – there was no chance of the light allowing the extra eight to be claimed – the umpires took the players off. By then, Middlesex’s officials had come to terms with the costs incurred by a short fourth day’s play in front of a very small crowd; Glamorgan are probably reconciled to a grim Thursday, too.

Their new Firmino: Liverpool could sign "De Bruyne-esque" star for £60m

Liverpool faced the incredibly difficult task of replacing Jurgen Klopp in the summer after he decided to step away from Anfield after almost a decade of service.

The German manager announced his departure in January of last year and officially left at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, after winning one Premier League title and one Champions League trophy during his time on Merseyside.

Arne Slot came in from Feyenoord to lead a new era for the Reds and only bolstered the squad with one addition in the summer transfer window, which was the signing of Federico Chiesa on a permanent deal.

The Dutch head coach has done a spectacular job at Anfield, so far, as his team is currently top of the Premier League table and has already qualified for the knock-out stages of the Champions League.

Mo Salah’s return of 19 goals and 13 assists on the right wing and Cody Gakpo’s return of eight goals and three assists on the left flank has helped to fire Liverpool to the top of the table, despite not having a consistent and reliable number nine option.

The Reds have failed to find a striker who can be relied upon to deliver week-in-week-out as a centre-forward in the Premier League since Roberto Firmino’s time at the club.

Why Roberto Firmino was a star for Liverpool

Liverpool signed the Brazil international from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015, shortly before Klopp’s arrival at Anfield, for a reported fee of £21.3m.

The bulk of his appearances for the Bundesliga side came as either an attacking midfielder or a second striker, but he eventually found his place as a centre-forward for Klopp for the majority of his time at Liverpool.

257 of his 362 appearances for the Reds came as an out-and-out number nine and he was an integral part of the club’s success in the Premier League and the Champions League as part of an exceptional front three alongside Salah and Sadio Mane.

Firmino made the attack tick with his ability to drag centre-backs up the pitch to create space for Salah and Mane to make runs in behind, whilst also using his incredible technical quality and fantastic passing range to provide assists for the wingers.

The 33-year-old ended his career at Anfield with an excellent return of 111 goals and 75 assists in all competitions, which shows that he provided quality as both a scorer and a creator of goals on a consistent basis as a centre-forward for the club.

Darwin Nunez, who has scored four goals and provided two assists in 17 Premier League matches this season, does not offer the same level of quality or consistency in the final third at this moment in time.

Slot, however, could unearth his own version of Firmino by dipping into the January transfer window to sign one of the club’s reported targets.

Liverpool eyeing Premier League striker

Football Insider reported last month that Liverpool are interested in Brighton & Hove Albion centre-forward Joao Pedro, as they look at potential targets to bolster their attacking options.

Transfer Focus

The outlet claimed that the Reds are plotting a move for the Brazilian dynamo and that they have been keeping tabs on his performances for the Premier League side, to see how he has developed this season.

It added that the former Watford attacker would be open to moving on from the Seagulls if the chance to join one of the top clubs in the division came around, which Liverpool – sat at the top of the table – certainly are.

Brighton paid £30m to sign the 23-year-old star from Watford in the summer of 2023 and Football Insider stated that they would want at least £60m to consider parting ways with the talented youngster during the January transfer window.

However, the report also revealed that a transfer is more likely to happen in the summer, at the end of the season, due to how tough Brighton are to negotiate with.

Whether Liverpool can wrap up a deal to sign Pedro this month or if they wait until the summer, the Brazilian forward could come in as Slot’s own version of Firmino to bolster the attack.

Why Joao Pedro could be Roberto Firmino 2.0

Aside from the obvious comparison of them both being Brazilian strikers who have played in the Premier League, the Brighton dynamo is also a number nine who has the quality to provide both goals and assists for his side.

The Brazil international showcased his ability as a goalscorer in his debut season with the south coast club, with a return of 20 goals in 40 matches in all competitions.

Pedro, who scored nine goals in 19 starts in the Premier League last term, has flourished as both a scorer and a creator of gals in the current top-flight campaign.

The Brazilian magician left former Spurs defender Michael Dawson amazed with his “De Bruyne-esque” pass to Karou Mitoma against Bournemouth earlier, which was one of the five assists he has registered so far. That was particularly high praise given that Kevin de Bruyne has 173 assists for Manchester City to date.

He currently ranks within the top 2% of Premier League forwards for assists per 90 (0.35) and this illustrates his immense creativity, as he is one of the best in his position at setting up teammates for goals in the league.

As you can see in the table above, Pedro has been a well-rounded centre-forward for Brighton this season with his ability to score and create goals consistently.

His return of ten direct goal contributions in 15 starts also speaks to his consistency in the final third, which is another reason why he could be Firmino 2.0 for Liverpool if the club can strike a deal for his services.

The Brazil international, who still has time left to develop and improve at the age of 23, has the technical ability, finishing quality, and creativity to be Slot’s own version of the former Reds icon, as well as a terrific teammate for Salah and Gakpo moving forward.
