WHU: Fans react to Oxlade-Chamberlain link

Fans of West Ham United have taken to Twitter in reaction to reports of the Hammers’ interest in a summer move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

According to a report by Anfield Central, David Moyes’ side have approached Liverpool regarding a move for Oxlade-Chamberlain, with the Reds manager, Jurgen Klopp, said to be open to letting the midfielder leave Merseyside this summer, despite the 53-year-old’s preference that the midfielder remains at Anfield.

However, whether the England international will consider a move to the London Stadium is dependant on his desire for regular first-team football, as, at present, Klopp does not view the 27-year-old as a crucial part of the Liverpool starting XI, the report claims.

Although, after several West Ham news accounts relayed the report on Twitter, fans of the Hammers flocked to have their say on the matter, with many appearing to be firmly against the idea of their club making a move for Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

So, what exactly did these West Ham United fans have to say in reaction to the report regarding Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain?

“Another sick note, no thanks.”

@ANDAMA73x

“Pls no.”

@LukaSkaric2

“Doubt it. Wouldn’t get in the side.”

Man Utd must beat UCL rivals to Camavinga

One of the most exciting youngsters in world football, Eduardo Camavinga, understandably has plenty of suitors, including Manchester United.

The young Frenchman has been linked with a number of European superpowers in recent years and now United are rumoured to be considering a move with AS reporting that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is an admirer of the midfielder.

He could become the Red Devils’ modern-day Roy Keane should he arrive at Old Trafford.

Since breaking through with Stade Rennais, Camavinga has earned plenty of praise for his all-action midfield displays.

The 18-year-old has already made 75 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit in all competitions, finding himself on the scoresheet just twice.

However, it is more in the defensive side of the game where the youngster thrives.

According to WhoScored, Camavinga has averaged 2.6 tackles per game in all competitions this season – with only right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka accumulating more in the Red Devils’ squad throughout 2020/21.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-man-united-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=” Latest Man United transfer rumours and news!”]

It is that determination to win the ball and anticipation of danger that could see him play a similar role to Man United legend Roy Keane when deployed in midfield at Old Trafford.

Camavinga’s displays have certainly not gone unnoticed either. Having already made three appearances for national side France – and scored his first goal for his country in October 2020 – he was labelled as a “huge talent” by Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps.

It is certainly tough to argue with that assessment with Camavinga already rated at £54m despite his tender years.

Despite that fee being certainly worth it for his signature, the fact that he is out of contract with his current employers next summer could see his asking price be lowered considerably.

Faced with considerable competition for his signature from UEFA Champions League clubs, Manchester United must ensure that they are the ones to sign Camavinga and in the process secure one of the most exciting young players in world football.

Pundit claims Rice isn’t worth £100 million

In an exclusive interview with The Transfer Tavern, Steve Bull, who made 561 appearances for Wolves, has claimed that Declan Rice is not worth anywhere near £100 million, as was quoted by Rob Lee to Transfer Tavern previously.

Before his injury which he picked up against Poland, Rice had played every single minute for West Ham in the Premier League this season with their success largely down to the partnership himself and Tomas Soucek had established.

David Moyes has turned the Hammers’ fortunes around after fighting off relegation last season, and they are now in a great position to qualify for the Champions League with just eight games left to play.

Speaking on why Rice isn’t worth £100 million and which player in the world could command a fee such as that, Bull spoke exclusively to Transfer Tavern:

“I think £100 million is a bit too much Mr Lee. We were saying last week that Neto was worth £75 million so you’ve really got to be thinking around that mark.

“I mean, it’s silly talking about these figures like £50, 70 and 100 million but I do think he’s a class player. You’re probably looking at Ronaldo for £100 million but no, I don’t think he’s worth that much.”

Moyes admitted before their 3-2 victory against Wolves that the club would have to listen to offers for both Rice and Soucek this summer.

The £62,000 per week midfielder is expected to miss a month’s worth of action after he played on with an injury for England during their World Cup qualifier against Poland, but was not checked over by the medical staff after the game.

Celtic: Hoops remain in Joseph hunt

Celtic remain in the hunt for Newcastle and Tottenham target Kyle Joseph, according to an exclusive report from Football Insider.

They have been informed from a Hoops source that the club remain in dialogue with the Wigan forward ahead of a potential cut-price move, despite reports suggesting that Newcastle were leading the way to land the teenager.

Celtic, who are looking to lure top young talent to Parkhead, have not given up hope of signing the 19-year-old, who is out of contract at the DW Stadium at the end of the season.

Football Insider added that both Newcastle and Spurs, along with Rangers, are also hopeful of landing Joseph on a pre-contract deal.

Transfer Tavern take

Former Celtic player and coach Billy Stark labelled Joseph’s goalscoring records coming through Wigan’s system as ‘excellent’, and it seems as if the youngster fits one of two Celtic transfer policies. The Hoops are thought to be looking at UK-based prospects with high upside potential who are available either on a pre-contract or for a nominal fee, per The Athletic.

Joseph fits that bracket of being an impressive UK young talent who could end up joining Celtic for just £300,000 in a compensation fee. He already has a number of senior appearances and goals under his belt, as well as being a Scotland youth international.

In the long run, Joseph could prove to be a shrewd replacement for someone like Leigh Griffiths, who at the age of 30 could end up being released by the club in the summer.

Murphy can bolster Rangers’ title defence

Jacob Murphy has seemingly emerged as a target for Rangers once again ahead of the summer transfer window as it’s been claimed that Steven Gerrard’s side remain keen on bringing the 26-year-old to Ibrox next season.

What’s the word?

That’s according to a report from Football Insider.

The Gers were keen on Murphy during the January transfer window but will not be available on a free transfer any longer, as it has emerged that he’s actually under contract at St James’ Park until 2022.

It’s thought the Magpies have a £3m asking price, whilst the SPFL giants will have to battle the likes of Southampton and Watford for his signature.

Kickstart title defence

The current campaign may not be done and dusted just yet, especially as the Light Blues still have that unbeaten record to keep intact, but it is a very shrewd decision to start planning ahead for next season.

Bringing in new faces will be crucial towards defending their title and if the Glasgow outfit are to remain dominant at the top, then they cannot rest on their laurels.

It’ll be all change down the road, with a mass exodus due after nine straight years of control, so there isn’t a better time for Rangers to bolster Gerrard’s squad.

And signing a new winger is a pretty good place to start.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/rangers-news-ibrox-steven-gerrard-ross-wilson-gers-rfc” title=”Latest Rangers news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Aside from Ryan Kent, the 40-year-old’s only other out-and-out wide man is January arrival Scott Wright. We’ve seen Joe Aribo fill in there on occasion, and Ianis Hagi, too but both are more suited centrally.

Currently, Jordan Jones is one of two wingers playing his football away from Ibrox and it is he who is in most doubt amid interest in Murphy. If he’s not fancied aged 26, then there’s very little hope of him returning to start games next season.

The forgotten Ibrox ace is also keen to return to the Stadium of Light, according to Football Insider, so it certainly seems like his Gers career is over.

Playing on the right for League One promotion hopefuls Sunderland, he has only managed to deliver one goal and one assist, whereas Murphy has thrived in England’s top-flight.

The £3.15m-rated dynamo has been one of Steve Bruce’s most consistent performers, even despite being asked to play wing-back at times, a decision that culminated in him scoring against Burnley last weekend in a performance where he arguably stole the show.

“He’s played a big part in the season. He’s had, for him, a really good season where he knows now that he belongs in the Premier League,” explained Bruce. ” I’d love to see him at the club. It’s what we want: young, hungry, determined to do well – he ticks all of those boxes.”

Interestingly, his versatility to play in defence is intriguing and with the Gers in Europe again next term, he could provide crucial cover for James Tavernier.

The Times’ chief football writer Henry Winter waxed lyrical about his ability to deliver at right wing-back earlier this month. He said: “Jacob Murphy outstanding for NUFC at right wing-back, ran himself into the ground, defending/attacking, got cramp, eventually subbed. His resilience echoed all over.”

Wilson must sanction a £3m swoop for Murphy this summer, he’d be the perfect signing to kickstart their ambitions to mount a solid title defence.

Everton: Juve want £34.5m for Demiral

Marcel Brands must block Everton from signing Merih Demiral in the summer transfer window after Juventus reportedly set a £34.5m valuation on Carlo Ancelotti’s target.

What’s the word?

According to Calciomercato, the Old Lady have warmed to the potential departure of Demiral in the off-season after previously deeming the Turkey international to be non-transferable.

Juve Sporting Director Fabio Paratici is a keen advocate of the 23-year-old’s potential and resisted Premier League and Serie A approaches for his services in January, but needs to raise €100m (£86m) in profit this summer.

As such, the Turin powerhouse have eased their position on Demiral and will listen to offers for a permanent transfer, but have set a €40m (£34.5m) asking price and will not entertain any discussions over a loan deal.

Juventus being willing to listen to offers will come as a boost for Ancelotti, who Gazzetta dello Sport had claimed would welcome Demiral at Everton after rejecting player-plus-cash deals involving Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot or Federico Bernardeschi for Moise Kean.

The Bianconeri were claimed to have put forward the quartet in recent discussions as they would be unable to match the Blues’ €50m (£43m) demands for Kean, and would hope that the inclusion of a player would result in a more amicable agreement being reached.

Demiral has only started 10 of his 14 appearances in the Serie A this season under Andrea Pirlo, partly due to spells on the sidelines with muscle and thigh injuries and contracting coronavirus while on international duty.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-everton-news%2c-views-and-gossip” title=”Latest Everton news, views and gossip!”]

Juventus recorded three clean sheets in the league fixtures that Demiral started, while shutting out two opponents in the Champions League and two in the Coppa Italia including Serie A leaders Inter Milan.

Should Everton sign Demiral?

While Ancelotti may be willing to include Demiral in any potential player-plus-cash exchange for Kean, Brands must step in and block the deal being agreed if Juventus are insistent on holding Everton to a £34.5m valuation.

Allowing Kean to return to Turin in a deal that would return less than £10m in cash would be considered a grave error by the Toffees’ Director of Football, who would then need to operate shrewdly in the summer market to replace the Italian.

Everton are expected to target a new centre-forward in the off-season if Kean departs and Joshua King leaves at the end of his contract in June, with Ancelotti otherwise content with his supporting options to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.

The Blues would also be in effect paying a large sum on potential once again, which failed to prove worthwhile during Kean’s time on Merseyside before joining PSG on loan with the 21-year-old only scoring twice in 31 Premier League games following his £25m arrival.

Demiral is by far not a finished product, either, with the centre-back – who Maurizio Sarri claimed was “bursting with energy” during his time in Turin – slammed by the Italian press last month after Juventus crashed out of the Champions League to FC Porto.

In snippets shared by Football-Italia, Corriere dello Sport wrote ‘the mistake that leads to Porto’s penalty is unforgivable,’ as his actions were ‘naïve and hasty, like a defender who doesn’t think.’

Tuttosport also suggested Demiral was ‘too impulsive,’ while La Repubblica claimed his ‘absurd’ actions that led to the penalty was just ‘one of many useless’ moves he made.

Demiral may have sizable backers in his corner who believe in his potential, but the fee Everton would need to agree to acquire that is surely too much for Brands to sanction.

Windass says Hasenhuttl has overachieved

Dean Windass has exclusively told Football FanCast that Ralph Hasenhuttl has been a victim of his own success at Southampton.

The Austrian replaced Mark Hughes midway through the 2018-19 campaign with the Saints deep in relegation trouble, but following eight victories from their last 24 Premier League games, Hasenhuttl guided Saints to safety.

And then in his first full season at St Mary’s, the former Leipzig manager recovered from the humiliating 9-0 defeat to Leicester to lead Southampton to an 11th-place finish, their best for three seasons.

However, despite the South Coast outfit topping the Premier League back in November, the campaign has been a struggle for Southampton, who’ve collected just 10 points from a possible 48 available in 2021, which is two fewer than already-relegated Sheffield United.

They were also beaten by Leicester in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final, but whilst Southampton sit bottom of the Premier League table for games played this calendar year, Windass doesn’t believe Hasenhuttl should be under pressure.

He told Football FanCast:

“There’s a lot of managers now and it will depend on how they start next seasonof next season, the first points on the board, they will want to win the first game as quickly as possible, because he’s underachieved this year.

“But that’s a big statement – have Southampton underachieved this season? No. But because of where they were at, and then all of a sudden they have dropped.

“If you asked Matt Le Tissier, ‘are you happy with Southampton’s season’, he would go ‘unbelievable’. Delighted. When I played Southampton were always in the bottom four or five. It’s about results and staying in the Premier League.”

SAFC fans slam Johnson comments

Many Sunderland fans were far from happy with comments from Lee Johnson following their draw with Accrington Stanley at the weekend.

The Black Cats’ automatic promotion hopes were all but officially ended as they could only manage a 3-3 draw with Stanley despite leading both 2-0 and 3-2. Even a victory would only have been delaying the inevitable, but they are now nine points behind Peterborough in second place with three games left to play (BBC) – they would need to win every match, hope Posh lose all of theirs, and also make up the seven-goal goal difference between the two teams.

Following the draw, Johnson spoke to the club’s media team. Obviously he was frustrated, describing his team’s collapse was unacceptable, but that didn’t appear to please some of the fans at all, with a few saying that he sounds like a broken record. This isn’t the first time that a number of supporters have taken umbrage with the manager’s words.

A video of his latest comments were shared on Twitter by the club’s official account, and it attracted plenty of attention from Sunderland supporters, one of whom disparagingly called him a “walking cliché”. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what these fans had to say about Johnson’s post-Stanley comments

Leeds fans bemoan Klich struggles

Mateusz Klich endured a difficult afternoon as Leeds United went down 2-0 at Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

Klich started his first game since the 2-0 defeat away to West Ham United in early March.

But his SofaScore rating of 6.4 was the third lowest in the Leeds team – only Ezgjan Alioski, who gave away a penalty, and Luke Ayling scored lower.

Klich lost four of his six ground duels and conceded possession on 11 occasions. He also attempted four crosses, only one of which was accurate.

A Pascal Gross penalty and a late Danny Welbeck effort condemned Leeds to defeat the Amex Stadium.

Where does the Brighton defeat leave Leeds?

The disappointing result against the relegation-threatened Seagulls ends their six-match unbeaten run, but Leeds remain ninth in the table with four games of the season remaining, so it is still an excellent campaign from Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

They could, however, be leapfrogged by Arsenal and Aston Villa and drop back into the bottom half if those teams win their respective games in hand.

Roberts hints at Spurs Leicester showdown

Graham Roberts has exclusively told Football FanCast that there’s a possibility Tottenham’s final-day trip to Leicester could become a straight shootout for the Champions League.

Spurs are currently seven points behind the Foxes with just four games remaining, but they face trips to both Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge prior to their final-day showdown at the King Power Stadium.

Meanwhile, Ryan Mason’s Tottenham have a far kinder fixture list with home games against Aston Villa and Wolves, who seemingly have little to play for, following Saturday’s visit to Leeds.

Both Liverpool and West Ham remain heavily involved in the fight for top four, but Roberts believes that should Spurs take maximum points from their next three games before beating Leicester two weeks on Sunday, it could be enough to see them qualify for the Champions League.

But before Tottenham arrive at Elland Road, they could find themselves 10 points adrift of the Foxes, who host Newcastle on the Friday Night Football.

However, just like 12 months ago, Roberts has hinted at the possibility of another Leicester collapse.

He told Football FanCast:

“Manchester United, Chelsea and us, that is not easy. I think, if we win our three games before them, I think whoever wins that game could be in the Champions League.

“But, saying that, West Ham are still hanging in there, so it’s going to be tight.

“I think Leicester need to beat Newcastle, and they’re at home, so they should beat them. I think they might lose out again because of the three games they’ve got left.”
